Heating system FAQs
How long does the installation take?
The time it takes to install your heating system depends on things like:
- The type of system you choose
- If any existing system needs to be removed
- Access to the area
- If new plumbing or other extra infrastructure needs to be installed
Once we understand the specifics of your installation, we can give you a more accurate estimate.
What time do the engineers arrive?
This depends on how many jobs they have in your area. We will always keep you in the loop and let you know when you can expect us. If the time doesn’t work for you, we’ll do what we can to reschedule.
Will the boiler installation make a mess?
While some mess is expected, all of our engineers make sure the surfaces are protected and cleaned up when the installation is finished. You’ll never have to worry about tidying up after us when we’re done.
Do I need to move anything before the installation starts?
Yes, please move any items that might block our access to the boiler. We’ll need a clear working area to make sure we can carry out the work efficiently and with the least disruption to your home and day-to-day life.
Do you need to access my bedrooms when installing a boiler?
To install a boiler, we will need to drain your radiators and refill them when the new boiler is set up. This means having access to any room with a radiator, including your bedrooms.
Will I have heating and hot water during the installation?
No. We will have to turn the gas and water off during the installation, but your engineers will always let you know beforehand so you won’t be caught off guard.
Will all rubbish be removed?
Yes, all the rubbish is removed and disposed of including the old boiler.
What happens if my boiler breaks down?
If your boiler was installed in the last 12 months, ring Grant Store and we will send an engineer free of charge.
Do I receive any documentation?
The engineers will complete the boiler benchmark and leave a copy on site. An electronic copy of your gas certificate can be emailed to you – you just have to request it.
EV charger installation FAQs
How long does the installation take?
Installing an EV charger can usually be completed in a few hours, but this can change depending on your property and the difficulty of the installation.
Is labour included in your quote?
When you get a quote for an EV charger installation from Grant Store, it includes everything from the cost of the charger to the labour for installation. We are upfront about all of our prices, so you never have to worry about hidden costs.
Do I need to do anything before the EV engineer arrives to install my charger?
Yes, clear away the area where you will have your charger installed and the pathway that leads to your consumer unit (fusebox). Locate your gas and electric meter and find out where the main water stop tap is inside your home.
What does tethered and untethered mean?
The difference between tethered and untethered is pretty straightforward. Tethered means a cable is provided with the charge point, while untethered means the charge point will not come with a charging cable – you will have to use the cable that came with your vehicle instead.
What is OLEZ/OLEV?
OZEV stands for The Office for Zero-Emission Vehicles (OZEV). It replaced OLEV, which stood for Office for Low-Emission Vehicles. The OZEV Grant allows you to claim up to 75% or £350 towards a brand-new EV charger for your home.
Who is eligible for the OZEV grant?
You are eligible for the OZEV grant if you:
- You own and live in a flat (this includes flats bought through the shared ownership scheme), or you rent a residential property
- Your home has its own private off-street parking space
- You own an eligible vehicle
Do I need planning permission to install an EV charger?
No, you shouldn’t need planning permission to install an EV charger unless you live in a listed building or conservation area.
Do I need any other permission to install an EV Charge Point?
Yes, you may need permission from the freeholder of the building or land. We do not check this at the point of purchase, so it is your responsibility to ensure you have permission before your installation.

Once we have all the details of your installation, we will be able to give you a more accurate timeframe.
How much does an insulation install cost?
Insulation prices vary depending on things like the size of the installation and the type of insulation you choose. For a full breakdown of what your installation could cost you, give us a call today.
Is room in roof insulation worth it?
Yes! Since heat rises, uninsulated homes can lose up to 25% of their warmth through the roof. With room in roof insulation, you create a barrier that traps this heat inside, keeping your home comfortable and helping you reduce your energy bills.
What is the difference between loft insulation and room in roof insulation?
Room in roof insulation tends to be installed in the eves and walls of your roof room, while loft insulation goes on and in between the joists on the loft floor.
