How the Great British Insulation Scheme works
Formerly known as ECO+, the GBIS runs parallel with the ECO4 scheme and will make £1 billion of funds available for single insulation upgrades until March 2026. Here’s how it works:
- Speak to Grant Store – As a GBIS-qualified installer, we’re approved to give quotes for insulation upgrades.
- Get an Energy Performance Certificate – This will assess the energy efficiency of your home and determine if you’re eligible for a grant.
- Apply for a grant – Either online or by post. You’ll need to provide your EPC, details of your home, your homeowner status, and your combined household income.
- Receive the grant – If your application is successful, you’ll receive a grant payment.
- Have the insulation installed – Enjoy your warmer, more energy-efficient home.

THE ‘GENERAL’ GROUP
This is for households that aren’t eligible for grants or funding under the ECO4 scheme. To qualify under this group, your home must be in Council Tax bands A-D in England, A-E in Scotland, and A-C in Wales. Your Energy Performance Certificate must also be a D or below.
THE ‘LOW INCOME’ GROUP
To qualify for funding via this group, you must:
- Be a homeowner who owns the property or rents the property as a private landlord
- Your home must have an EPC rating of D
- You must have received one of the following benefits within 18 months of the installation:
- Child Benefit
- Child Tax Credits
- Housing Benefit
- Income-based Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Income-based Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)
- Income support
- Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit)
- Pension Credit (Savings Credit)
- Universal Credit
- Working Tax Credits
LA FLEX FUNDING: THE ‘VULNERABLE’ GROUP
If you don’t qualify for Great British Insulation Scheme funding, then you might be able to receive funding via the LA Flex scheme instead. Local authorities set the qualifying criteria for LA Flex, and every local authority has its own criteria that have to be met.
