Who qualifies for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
To be eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, there are some strict criteria you have to meet:
The Basics
- You own the property
- You are replacing fossil fuel heating systems (oil, gas, electric or liquified petroleum gas)
- Your property has a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
- Your property is off the gas grid
- Your property is in a rural location
- Your boiler has an emissions certificate proving that polluting emissions are kept to a minimum
For new build or self-build properties
This scheme is not available for new-build properties that are still under construction by the developer. However, if you’ve moved into a recently finished new-build with a fossil fuel boiler, you may qualify for a heat pump grant under this scheme.
For self-built properties, eligibility depends on two factors:
- You (or the original owner) must have personally built it or hired a builder for the construction.
- The property cannot have been previously owned by a business or organisation.
As proof of self-build status, you’ll need to provide your installer with documentation like title deeds.
