What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

From July 2026, eligible oil and LPG homes in England and Wales can receive £9,000 toward an air source heat pump installation. How does an air source heat pump work?

Air source heat pumps work by extracting heat from the outside air and transferring it into your home — even in sub-zero temperatures. Unlike oil boilers or LPG systems, they run on electricity, meaning your heating costs become more predictable and far less exposed to volatile fuel markets. Modern ASHP systems are highly efficient, typically producing three to four units of heat for every one unit of electricity consumed.
