How a heat pump installation works with us

  1. Survey and heat loss. An engineer visits, measures every room and checks your radiators and pipework, then works out the heat each room needs.
  2. Design and quote. You get a written design and a price, with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant shown as its own line.
  3. Installation and handover. Our engineers install and commission the system and show you how to run it.

Homes in England and Wales can get £7,500 towards an air source heat pump through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, if the property qualifies. The grant is taken off your quote, so you do not have to find the money up front.

Homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas connection can get an extra £1,500 until March 2027, which makes £9,000. Read the government guidance on the scheme.

Wigan heat pump installation FAQs

Have questions about heat pump installations in Wigan? We’ve got the answers! Check out some of the most common ones below, or give us a call if you need more information.

Are air source heat pumps worth it for my UK home in 2025?

Yes, air source heat pumps are one of the most cost-effective and sustainable heating options for UK homes in 2025. They deliver up to 400% efficiency and reduce household emissions by as much as 70%. They can also save homeowners up to £1,500 a year on energy bills when replacing traditional boilers.

How much does an air source heat pump installation cost in the UK?

The average cost of an air source heat pump installation in the UK is between £7,000 and £15,000, depending on your property size, system capacity, and existing heating setup. Many homeowners can reduce this cost to £4,500–£7,500 with the help of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant. Bigger properties that need radiator or plumbing upgrades may pay slightly more, but the long-term energy savings often outweigh this upfront cost.

Do I need to upgrade my radiators for a heat pump installation?

You don’t always need to upgrade your radiators for a heat pump installation. Many existing radiators are perfectly compatible with modern heat pumps. However, older or smaller radiators may need replacing to distribute heat throughout your home more evenly.

How do air source heat pumps work?

Air source heat pumps work by extracting heat from the outside air and transferring it into your home through a process called vapour compression. The system compresses refrigerant gas to increase its temperature, then uses a heat exchanger to pass warm air into your home’s heating system or hot water boiler.
