Leicestershire Solar Together Scheme

The Leicestershire Solar Together Scheme 2023-2024 marked our third Solar Together initiative and showcased our ability to adapt and excel under unexpected circumstances. Initially tasked with managing half of the project, we quickly scaled our operations to handle the entire scheme after the withdrawal of another company.

Over a six-month period, we successfully installed 227 Solar PV systems, utilising high-quality Suntech panels and Growatt inverters, while overcoming logistical challenges and ensuring high customer satisfaction.

Challenges

Sudden Increase in Project Scope:

  • Additional Customers: With the withdrawal of the other company, we had to accommodate a significantly larger number of customers. This required swift operational adjustments and resource allocation to manage the expanded workload.
  • Extra Storage Facilities: To handle the increased volume of solar panels and equipment, we secured additional storage facilities. This included scheduling alternative logistics drop-off points at both ends of the Leicestershire Borough to streamline distribution and minimise delays.

Recruitment and Surveying:

  • Increased Survey Demand: The sudden influx of customers necessitated the recruitment of more surveyors on short notice. This was essential to complete the additional surveys required for the expanded customer base.
  • Efficient Logistics Management: Coordinating the surveys and installations across a larger geographic area posed logistical challenges. We had to optimise scheduling and routes to ensure timely and efficient service delivery

Result

Despite these challenges, the project achieved outstanding results over a six-month period:

  • Installations: We successfully installed over 227 Solar PV systems, significantly surpassing our initial scope. The systems included Suntech All Black panels, Growatt inverters, and battery storage packages, available in 3.3kW, 6.5kW, and 13kW units.
  • High Conversion Rate: We achieved our highest conversion rate to date, with 69.9% of the total customers passed over from the other company proceeding with installations. This reflects our ability to effectively manage customer relationships and deliver on our commitments.
  • Customer Satisfaction: The customers benefitted from reduced energy costs and the added value of sustainable energy solutions. The high-quality Suntech panels and Growatt systems provided reliable and efficient energy, enhancing the overall satisfaction and trust in GSL’s services.
  • Community Impact: This project further solidified our role in promoting renewable energy within the Leicestershire community. By taking on the expanded customer base and delivering successful installations, we contributed significantly to local sustainability efforts.

To manage this, we implemented a proactive communication strategy to keep customers informed about the status of their installations and any anticipated delays. This transparency helped maintain customer trust and satisfaction during the process.

Conclusion

The Leicestershire 2023 – 2024 Solar Together project demonstrated GSL’s resilience and capability to adapt to unexpected changes. By efficiently scaling our operations and maintaining high standards of service, we not only met, but exceeded project expectations.
