Introduction

As part of its continued mission to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy in the UK, Grant Store Ltd (GSL) was appointed to deliver the Worcestershire Solar Together initiative. This collective solar purchasing scheme provided homeowners across the country with access to high-quality solar PV systems at competitive rates, supported by a seamless customer journey from survey to installation.

Drawing on lessons learned from earlier schemes, GSL approached the Worcestershire delivery phase with an emphasis on scalability, logistical precision, and maintaining customer satisfaction across a large and diverse geographical area.

Challenges

Delivering the scheme in Worcestershire presented unique challenges that tested our operational planning and project agility:

  • Storage & Logistics: Due to limited local storage facilities and rural site locations, material delivery required careful coordination. Just-in-time delivery scheduling was essential to ensure products arrived in the right sequence and at the right time, without compromising installation timelines or material condition.
  • Large Delivery Area: Worcestershire’s mix of remote rural communities and dense urban areas made scheduling and workforce management more complex. It required dynamic planning of contractor routes and efficient tasking of surveyors to avoid duplication, long travel times, and inefficiencies in the workflow.

These challenges were met with a combination of digital planning tools, enhanced coordination between teams, and real-time monitoring of deliveries and surveyor allocation.

Result

Despite these hurdles, the Worcestershire Solar Together scheme delivered strong outcomes over a six-month period:

  • Installations: GSL installed 3,450 solar PV panels. Each system featured high-performance panels and hybrid inverter technology tailored to household needs.
  • System Reliability: Installed systems demonstrated strong performance and reliability in the early months of operation, with very few reported faults or follow-up issues.
  • Environmental Impact: The scheme is expected to generate a substantial amount of clean energy annually, making a meaningful contribution to local carbon reduction efforts.

To manage this, we implemented a proactive communication strategy to keep customers informed about the status of their installations and any anticipated delays. This transparency helped maintain customer trust and satisfaction during the process.

Conclusion

The Worcestershire Solar Together scheme exemplified GSL’s ability to manage large-scale installations while navigating complex logistical and geographic demands. Our successful delivery, achieved through detailed planning and responsive execution, reinforces GSL’s reputation as a reliable partner for regional low-carbon energy programs. The project not only delivered tangible environmental and financial benefits for residents but also strengthened local confidence in the transition to sustainable energy.
