Background

In June 2022, we were approached by Happy Energy to undertake the installation of solar panels for properties in Runnymede, a borough in London, under the Local Authority Delivery (LAD) Scheme. The scope of work included the supply and installation of solar panels, as well as all necessary scaffolding, roofing, electrical, and commissioning works. This initiative aimed to enhance energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions in residential properties through the adoption of solar energy.

Challenges

The project posed several significant challenges, primarily due to the tight timeline. We only had three months to complete the entire project, as all installations had to be finalised by the end of September 2022 to qualify for funding through the LAD Scheme. Key challenges included:

  • Short Notice Engagement: We began our engagement with Happy Energy in June 2022, which gave us a limited timeframe to complete all necessary preparations and installations.
  • Securing Contractors: It was imperative to secure reliable scaffolding and roofing contractors on short notice. Given the high demand for such services, this required rapid and efficient coordination.
  • Procurement of Materials: Procuring all the necessary solar panels and inverters at short notice was another significant hurdle. The market for solar technology can be highly competitive, and ensuring the timely delivery of quality components was critical.

Result

Despite the challenges, the project was a resounding success. We managed to install 68 Solar PV systems across various properties in Runnymede within the stipulated timeframe. The key outcomes of the project included:

Successful Installations: The installations were completed using Canadian solar panels and Solis inverters, both of which are known for their efficiency and reliability.

Quality Assurance: Each installation was carried out to the highest standards, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of the solar PV systems.

Efficient Coordination: Through effective project management and coordination with contractors and suppliers, we were able to overcome the logistical challenges and meet the tight deadlines.

Environmental Impact: The successful installation of these solar panels contributed to the reduction of carbon emissions and promoted the use of renewable energy sources within the community.
