Who qualifies for the Great British Insulation Scheme?

To be eligible for the Great British Insulation Scheme, you will have to fit into one of the below groups:

The low-income group

To qualify for the GBIS in this group, you have to receive at least one of the following benefits:

  • Child Benefit
  • Pension Guarantee Credit
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Tax Credits (Child Tax Credits and Working Tax Credits)
  • Universal Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Pension Saving Credit
The general group

To qualify for this group, your property must:

  • Have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D to G
  • Be within council tax bands A to D in England, OR
  • A to E in Scotland and Wales
Local authority support

You may still qualify for home insulation grants through the GBIS if you don’t match the above criteria. This support is available under the LA Flex scheme. Reach out today to check your eligibility.

What types of insulation could I have under the GBIS scheme?

Under the GBIS, you may be eligible to receive funding for a range of home, wall, and roof insulation, including:

  • Cavity wall insulation
  • Solid wall insulation (internal or external)
  • Loft insulation
  • Flat or pitched roof insulation
  • Underfloor insulation
  • Solid floor insulation
  • Park home insulation
  • Room-in-roof insulation

Home insulation schemes like the GBIS may not cover the entire cost of certain insulation solutions, such as solid wall insulation. However, if you are under a certain earning threshold or receive certain benefits, you may still qualify for free central heating for your home.
